Paramaribo to the Mainstage — How Chuckie Got Here
Paramaribo kid, Caribbean rhythms, Dutch clubs at night. The road to headlining wasn't obvious.
Where it started
Born June '78 in Paramaribo. Grew up on dancehall, soca and bubbling — that sped-up Caribbean club sound that connected Suriname, the ABC islands and the Dutch scene. Lives in Aruba now. You can still hear all of that in his sets.
He started DJing in '93, working the Dutch club circuit. Long nights, sweaty rooms, crowds that didn't care about your name — just whether you could keep the energy up. That's where he learned the one rule he still follows: read the room, then flip it.
Then it blew up
'Let The Bass Kick' dropped in 2008 and that was it. High-pitched synths over hip-hop drums — everyone from Swedish House Mafia to Pete Tong was playing it. A year later LMFAO jumped on it and it charted across Europe and Australia.
After that: remixes for Michael Jackson, Guetta, Black Eyed Peas. Productions for 50 Cent and Kesha. A Vegas residency at Marquee. Tomorrowland, Dance Valley, you name it. Not bad for a kid from Paramaribo.
